- North American / Canadair F-86E Sabre
The F-86 Saber single-engine jet fighter was developed by the American aircraft manufacturer North American Aviation in the late 1940s and became a key aircraft in post-war military aviation. The F-86 had a swept wing design, a large front air intake and the General-Electric J47 jet engine.
The fighter's flight performance was impressive for the time and was very different from the wartime propeller aircraft.
The Saber was armed with six M3 12.7mm Browning machine guns installed in the nose.
It was used by the USAF. and played a key role during the Korean War, where it effectively countered the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-15 fighter aircraft in the first dogfights in history. The F-86 proved to be a highly effective aircraft and many American pilots received the designation “Ace” during combat missions in the Korean War.
