The Mirage III C first flew on October 9, 1960. It was the first production aircraft.
The Mirage III C was a single-seat interceptor powered by an Atar 09B-3 turbojet engine.
It was armed with two 30 mm DEFA cannons, each with 125 rounds of ammunition, and five external hardpoints on the wings. As an interceptor, the aircraft carried a variety of air-to-air missiles (Matra R-511 or R-530, Sidewinder).
For ground attack missions, these were replaced by air-to-surface missiles (AS.20, AS.30) or JL100R rocket launchers.
