The Lockheed F-80 Shooting Star was the first jet fighter to be used operationally by the United States Army Air Forces and saw action alongside the United States Air Force (USAF) in the Korean War as the F-80.
As one of the world's first successful turbojet-powered combat aircraft, it significantly contributed to the beginning of the "jet age" for the USAF and other air forces worldwide.
It gained notoriety, among other things, for training a new generation of pilots, particularly in connection with the development of its closely related trainer, the T-33 Shooting Star.
