The prototype P-80 made its maiden flight in January 1944 and entered service in February 1945.
Due to the end of World War II, the Air Force reduced the planned production run from 5,000 to 917.
The P-80 was redesignated F-80 in 1948.
The F-80A is powered by a J33-A-5 engine, enabling a top speed of 932 km/h.
Its armament consists of two 12.7 mm M3 cannons with 1,800 rounds of ammunition.
