The F/A-18 Hornet is a single- or two-seat, twin-engine, multirole combat aircraft capable of operating from aircraft carriers and airfields.
It performs a variety of missions: air superiority, fighter escort, anti-aircraft fire, reconnaissance, forward air control, close air support, and day and night attacks.
The F/A-18 Hornet replaced the F-4 Phantom II fighter-bomber and the A-7 Corsair II, and also superseded the A-6 Intruder after these aircraft were retired in the 1990s.
