Two Seafang MK.32 prototypes were ordered on March 12, 1945, followed by an order for 150 Seafang MK.31s on May 7, 1945.
To expedite entry into service, the MK.31 was ordered, a naval-converted Spiteful, essentially a Spiteful with an arresting hook.
This enabled the development of the MK.32, the final naval variant, with an additional arresting hook and a contra-rotating propeller to avoid engine torque effects, as well as electrically folding outer wings.
