The E-3 variant—the first true mass-produced version of the Bf 109—entered service in late 1939.
Capable of speeds up to 570 km/h, it saw action in the skies over Belgium and France during the German invasions.
From the summer of 1940, British airspace became the focal point of air operations: the Battle of Britain.
The Bf 109 E-3 engaged in countless dramatic dogfights with British counterparts, such as the Hurricane and the Spitfire.
