The Junkers Ju 290 was a four-engine German long-range aircraft from World War II, developed from the Ju 90. Originally designed as a heavy transport aircraft, it was later used for long-range maritime reconnaissance over the Atlantic, submarine support, and special missions. Thanks to its extensive range of over 6,000 kilometers, it could reach distant operational areas and played a significant role, particularly in reconnoitering Allied ship movements.

The Ju 290 featured a large payload capacity and a rear loading ramp—advanced for its time—which facilitated the loading and unloading of vehicles, equipment, and troops. It was powered by four BMW 801 radial engines, giving it a top speed of approximately 440 km/h. Later versions were equipped with heavier defensive armament and additional gear, such as radar systems for maritime reconnaissance missions.

From 1942 onwards, the Ju 290 was deployed in various roles, including supply flights, long-range reconnaissance missions over the Atlantic, and special operations by the Luftwaffe unit KG 200. There were also plans to use the aircraft for ultra-long-range missions as part of the so-called "Amerika Bomber" program, though these projects never reached the production stage.

Despite its advanced features, only about 65 aircraft were built in total. Material shortages, the deteriorating war situation, and the prioritization of other aircraft types limited its production. After the war, some of the remaining aircraft were tested or put into continued service by the Allies. Today, no fully preserved original Ju 290 remains. Nevertheless, the aircraft is considered one of the most remarkable large German aircraft of World War II and is of great interest, particularly to aviation and scale-modeling enthusiasts.
