About the Morris Mini Cooper Racing
Introduced in October 1959, the Morris Mini broke away from the vehicle designs common at the time. Its "two-box" design resulted in a compact, four-seater car measuring approximately three meters in length, featuring a front-mounted engine and front-wheel drive. It was originally equipped with an 848 cc engine (34 hp), capable of a top speed of 115 km/h. Its outstanding design provided comfortable seating for four adults. Another excellent innovation was the proven "Hydrolastic" suspension system with independent suspension on all four wheels, which replaced the previously used, highly compact rubber cone system in 1964.

The superbly balanced vehicle also proved its worth in racing; John Cooper, a prominent figure in British motorsport, tuned the engine and brought the model to market as the Morris Mini Cooper. A series of modifications followed starting in 1961: initially, a 997 cc engine was used, followed by a 998 cc engine in the Cooper and, in 1963, the Cooper S with 1,071 cc and 67.5 hp. The popular 1,275 cc, 75 hp model appeared in 1964, alongside a special 970 cc racing version. The racing versions of the 1275S and 970S were often known as "Works Minis"; the 1275S was equipped with a 1,293 cc engine that met the requirements of the 1,300 cc class and produced 91 hp. The racing Mini demonstrated its potential by dominating races in 1964 and 1965. It won the 1,300 cc class title in the British Saloon Car Championship (BSCC) in 1967 and the European Touring Car Championship in 1968, while also securing the BSCC title again that same year. Thanks to its success on the track and in rallies, the Mini Cooper is considered a true gem of motorsport.
