P-47D-22RE Thunderbolt Malcoln Hood - Advanced Kit

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a heavy American fighter aircraft from the Second World War. It served as an escort fighter and proved particularly effective as a fighter-bomber; its robust construction, armor, and eight machine guns made it well-suited for attacks on ground targets.

The designation P-47D-22-RE can be broken down as follows:

• P-47: U.S. type designation; at the time, "P" stood for "Pursuit" (fighter aircraft).
• D: Series.
• 22: Production block within this series.
• RE: Manufactured by Republic in Farmingdale, New York.

The D-22 was one of the final "Razorback" versions. Its raised fuselage spine behind the cockpit is its most distinctive feature. A significant technical detail was the wide, four-blade Hamilton Standard Hydromatic propeller, measuring nearly four meters in diameter; it was designed to effectively harness the increased engine power provided by water injection.
