- de Havilland DH.110 Sea Vixen Faw.2
The SEA VIXEN was a post-war British twin-engine, carrier-based, all-weather jet fighter designed and built by the de Havilland Aircraft Company at Hatfield as the DH110. Production was taken over by Hawker Siddeley Aircraft. The SEA VIXEN served with the Fleet Air Arm from 1959 to 1972.
The swept-wing fighter was the first to have a complete weapons system, including Firestreak missiles, rockets, and bombs, as well as the AI.18 GEC air-to-air interceptor radar.
The improved FAW-2 model was equipped with de Havilland Red Top AAM air-to-air missiles and Bullpup ground-attack missiles.
A notable feature of the SEA VIXEN was its left-offset cockpit and canopy.
The SEA VIXEN was a swept-wing fighter. The top speed was 690 mph.
The operational Sea Vixens were decommissioned somewhat earlier; some were transferred to training units at Yeovilton and replaced in service by US-built FG.1 Phantoms.
