The Light Armored Reconnaissance Vehicles (Lheere Panzerspähwagen) were a series of light armored cars with all-wheel drive. The Sd.Kfz. 221 was armed with a single 7.92mm MG 13 machine gun, which was replaced by a MG 34 machine gun in 1938. It had a two-man crew (driver and commander).
In 1936, ten Sd.Kfz. 221s, equipped with a larger tropical radiator, were delivered to China.
