The Wisent armored recovery vehicle is a new development by Flensburger Fahrzeugbau based on the Bergepanzer 2 armored recovery vehicle with the aim of meeting the higher demands placed on an armored recovery vehicle by the Leopard 2 main battle tank.
Development took place from 2006 to 2007.
The ballistic protection complies with NATO STANAG 4569 Level 5 and Level 3 mine protection.
The vehicle offers the option of accommodating add-on armor modules.
The Wisent 1 has been equipped with an upgraded engine, winch, and crane system.
The vehicle is 8.20 m long, 3.46 m wide, and 2.95 m high.
The total weight is 44.5 t, and the crane can lift a maximum of 30 t.
The upgraded engine produces 700 kW/952 hp and can accelerate the vehicle to 62 km/h.
