Strv 122: In early 1998, the Swedish Army took delivery of the first of 120 brand-new Leopard 2 main battle tanks—based on the German Leopard 2A5 but featuring numerous improvements—under the local designation Strv 122.
This Swedish-licensed variant resembles the Leopard 2A5, featuring a domestically produced turret and other upgrades.
The tank is equipped with an active French Galix protection system as well as improved command and control capabilities. Sweden has developed a HE-T round for its Leopard 2 and Strv 122 tanks, designed for an effective range of 2,000 meters or more. With its additional armor, the Strv 122 weighs 62 tons.
