The EITAN is being developed as an armored personnel carrier for the Israeli Defense Forces. It is intended to be the successor to the widely used M113 and also replace the much heavier Namer (converted Merkava IV). The 8-wheeled vehicle is designed to protect the crew (driver, commander, gunner + up to 12 infantrymen) and to be fast (90-95 km/h). Similar to the U.S. Stryker, it will be equipped with various weapons such as a 7.62×51 or 12.7×99 mm machine gun, 40 mm grenade launcher, 30 mm cannon on a rotating turret or guided missiles.
