From the start of mass production, the Krupp-Gruson plant in Magdeburg was one of the key manufacturers of the Panzerkampfwagen IV and played a pivotal role in producing the Ausführung H variant. Between 1943 and 1944, numerous vehicles of this type rolled off the assembly line and were delivered directly to Wehrmacht armored units. Although the Ausführung H was built according to standardized specifications, the vehicles produced at Krupp-Gruson—like those from other manufacturers—exhibited characteristic production features and detailed variations depending on when they were built.

In technical terms, the Ausführung H represented the pinnacle of the Panzerkampfwagen IV's evolution. Frontal armor reinforced to 80 mm significantly increased protection against enemy anti-tank weapons, while standard-issue side skirts (*Schürzen*) on the turret and hull improved resilience against shaped-charge weapons and anti-tank rifles. The main armament was the 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/48 tank gun; its high penetration capability made it an effective weapon against most Allied and Soviet main battle tanks. The vehicle, weighing approximately 25 tons, was powered by the proven Maybach HL 120 TRM engine. This liquid-cooled, 11.9-liter, twelve-cylinder gasoline engine generated 300 hp, enabling a top speed of around 38 km/h. Despite the vehicle's increased weight, the powertrain was considered robust and reliable, remaining the standard for the Panzerkampfwagen IV until the end of the war.

Throughout the production run, Krupp-Gruson introduced numerous technical and manufacturing modifications. These included reinforced running gear and transmission components, simplified mountings for tools and spare track links, and various adjustments to the exhaust system, idler wheels, and side skirts. From the autumn of 1943, the vehicles received a Zimmerit coating to protect against magnetic mines; the application of this coating was discontinued in September 1944 on orders from the Army. Many of these modifications were implemented gradually, reflecting the German armaments industry's growing shortage of materials and increasing time pressure.

The Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. H tanks manufactured by Krupp-Gruson saw action on almost every front during the second half of the war. They fought on the Eastern Front as well as in Italy, Normandy, the Ardennes Offensive, and the final defensive battles on German soil. Thanks to their powerful armament, improved armor, and mature design, they ranked among the most important German battle tanks of 1943 and 1944. For modelers, vehicles from the Krupp-Gruson plant hold a special appeal, as numerous manufacturer-specific production details allow for accurate chronological dating and authentic representation of individual production batches.
