Renault Estafette Gendarmerie

It is often believed that the Renault 4, which came on the market in 1961, was the first car to feature Renault was front-wheel drive.
This is not the case. It was the Renault Estafette commercial vehicle from the year 1959.
The French competitors were at that time the Peugeot D3A / D4B and the Citroën Type H.
The Estafette was based on the front-wheel drive system of the Citroën, which thus had a large, flat loading area, four Independent wheel suspensions, a sliding side door and a three-wing rear door offered.
