The Dingo 1 OpInfo is a special variant of the ATF Dingo 1 protected wheeled vehicle, developed for the Bundeswehr's Operational Information (OpInfo) unit. This model was specifically designed for psychological operations and reconnaissance and was deployed in Afghanistan and Kosovo, among other places. The most striking feature of the Dingo 1 OpInfo is a powerful, permanently installed loudspeaker system with an output of 400 watts, which can be used to broadcast voice or music announcements directly in the area of operations. This system enabled the Bundeswehr to disseminate important information quickly and with a high level of audibility – for example, to inform the population, warn of dangers, or de-escalate conflicts.
Technically, the Dingo 1 OpInfo is based on the standard Dingo 1: The vehicle is mounted on a Unimog chassis, features all-wheel drive, and a 6-cylinder diesel engine with 163 hp, which can accelerate the approximately 7.6-ton vehicle to speeds of up to 90 km/h. The Dingo offers ballistic protection according to NATO STANAG 4569 Level 2 and mine protection according to Level 3b, protecting it against small arms fire, fragmentation, and mine explosions. With a range of approximately 1,000 kilometers, it is extremely mobile.
Up to four soldiers can be accommodated inside, protected by the high-strength armored hull made of armored steel and composite material. The 400-watt loudspeaker system is integrated into the roof superstructure, with large speakers radiating to the front and sides, and an interior amplifier ensuring long range. The system can be controlled directly from the protected interior of the vehicle, eliminating unnecessary exposure for the crew.
Thanks to its combination of protection, mobility, and specialized equipment, the Dingo 1 OpInfo was an indispensable tool for the Bundeswehr's communications and reconnaissance tasks in international operations. Some vehicles of this type are still in service, but are gradually being replaced by modernized platforms.
