The Hawker Hurricane is a British fighter aircraft design from the 1930s.
By the end of 1944, around 14,000 Hurricane and Sea Hurricane fighters and fighter-bombers had been built.
In August 1940, the Hurricane took part in what would become the pinnacle of history: the Battle of Britain. RAF Hurricanes were responsible for shooting down more enemy aircraft than all other defenses combined, including all aircraft and ground defenses. Later in the war, the Hurricane performed outstandingly well in North Africa, Burma, Malta, and almost every other theater in which the RAF was involved. The Hurricane was modified frequently throughout its lifecycle, resulting in many important variants, including the Mk IA with interchangeable wings mounting eight 7.7 mm (0.303 in) cannons, the Mk IIC with a Merlin XX engine, and the Mk IID, an anti-tank gun with two 40 mm and two 7.7 mm cannons.
During the war, Hurricanes were sold to Egypt, Finland, India, Ireland, Persia, Turkey, and the USSR.
