Initially, it produced fire engines and accessories. Before the First World War, the company began manufacturing trucks and buses. These vehicles were known for their high reliability and proved their worth even under the harshest conditions. Since the parent company was Klöckner Humboldt Deutz AG, the common brand name was Magirus-Deutz, or simply Klöckner. The Magirus-Deutz logo was a stylized M with a long, pointed tip, symbolizing the tower of Ulm Cathedral. Because Büssing-NAG and Daimler-Benz could not supply enough off-road six-wheeled trucks in the 1.5-ton class, the Reichswehr commissioned Magirus to develop a comparable vehicle. The first prototypes were completed in the autumn of 1933. Series production under the designation Magirus M 206 began in 1934. The basic version (flatbed) was 5470 mm long, 2220 mm wide, and 2350 mm high. The wheelbase was 2500 + 900 mm. The curb weight was 3150 kg, and the permissible gross weight was 4675 kg. The four-cylinder Magirus S 88 gasoline engine produced 70 hp. The transmission had four gears plus reverse. The top speed on the road was 62 km/h. Fuel consumption was 35 liters per 100 km on the road and 45 liters per 100 km off-road. By 1938, 1080 vehicles had been completed. The majority of these vehicles were delivered to the Reichswehr and the Wehrmacht with special bodies. Examples included the Kfz. 61 telephone operator vehicle and the Kfz. 61 radio vehicle. 62 Staff Evaluation Vehicle, Weather Vehicle, Vehicle 68 Radio Mast Vehicle (radio vehicle with three antenna masts – some were equipped with Enigma encryption machines), Vehicle 76 Observation Vehicle. By installing the twin 36 gun mount, an anti-aircraft vehicle was created. In 1934, the Magirus M 206a chassis was also developed. It was used exclusively for six-wheeled armored cars. Eighty of these chassis were manufactured. They featured additional steering for the driver at the rear and a shortened wheelbase.
