The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG.III) was the most widely produced armored vehicle by Germany during World War II.
10,619 units were ultimately produced.
It was based on the chassis of the Panzer III and was cheaper and quicker to build as it did not have a rotating turret.
The Ausf.E, equipped with a short-barreled 7.5 cm StuK37 L/24 cannon, was produced from September 1941 to March 1942.
During this time, around 272 units left the German factory halls.
