For casualty transport, the ATMP was fitted with a special stretcher mount that allowed NATO-standard stretchers to be securely attached. Depending on the mission and equipment, up to four recumbent casualties could be transported, with the stretchers mounted in tiers or pairs on a frame. There was also space for medical supplies and one or two accompanying personnel. This configuration was tested during exercises by British airborne brigades and proved to be an effective solution for the rapid evacuation of wounded personnel from rugged terrain.
The vehicle's open design facilitated access to patients and allowed for quick loading and unloading. At the same time, the absence of an enclosed cabin meant that casualties could only be protected from the elements by tarpaulins or weather covers. Consequently, the ATMP was not intended as a full-fledged ambulance, but rather as a highly mobile CASEVAC vehicle designed to transport the injured out of the danger zone to further medical care as quickly as possible. In this role, the ATMP was deployed during exercises and operations involving British airborne and commando units. Its ability to operate in terrain impassable to larger medical vehicles made it a vital link between the front line and medical facilities further to the rear. Furthermore, the vehicle's modular design allowed the stretcher assembly to be quickly swapped out for a cargo bed or other mission-specific equipment when required.
For modelers, the Supacat ATMP equipped with stretchers represents a unique and realistic variant of the vehicle. Details such as the intricate stretcher frame, the stacked stretchers, medical backpacks, IV bags, and personal gear lend the model an authentic feel. A diorama depicting the transport of wounded personnel to a Boeing CH-47 Chinook or a forward medical post is particularly evocative, illustrating an often-overlooked yet crucial aspect of modern military logistics.
