With a 2 pounder cannon and armor plating of up to 78 mm at the front and a top speed of 24 km/h, it was used by the Red Army for infantry support.
Later Red Army Matildas received new idlers, improved tracks and bogie runners to better withstand the harsh conditions of the Eastern Front.
