The Schwerer Wehrmachtschlepper (sWS) was developed as a medium half-track vehicle and used to transport supplies to the frontline troops or as a towing vehicle for light artillery.
However, due to the large, flat cargo space in the rear, other uses were also developed.
One modification was the Panzerwerfer 42 on sWS, with a 10-round 15cm Nebelwerfer 42 mounted above an armoured ammunition storage compartment.
The launcher, developed as a Nebelwerfer, was used and could fire high explosive ammunition.
The original structure of the transport vehicle was reinforced with additional armoured shields to protect the crew from enemy fire and the effects of the rocket launcher.
