The field howitzer FH-70 (also FH155-1) was the result of a cooperation between Great Britain and Germany, which brought out the first prototypes in the late 1960s. 932 units were built between 1976 and 1982. The howitzer could fire any 155 mm NATO ammunition between 18.1 and 30.1 km. It could be towed by a towing vehicle at up to 100 km/h. It had an auxiliary engine for rapid position changes without a towing vehicle. The FH-70 was used in Great Britain, Italy and Germany. Saudi Arabia and Malaysia later also purchased a certain number. Japan produced them itself under license.
