The 7.5 cm ammunition for the Kw.K. 40 and Stu.K. 40 was among the most important ordnance used by German tanks and assault guns during World War II. Various types of ammunition were available depending on the operational requirement.

• High-explosive shells (*Sprgr.*) were employed against unarmored targets, infantry, field positions, and light fortifications, relying on blast and fragmentation effects.
• Smoke shells (*Nbgr.*) were used to create smoke screens to cover friendly troops, conceal movements, or obscure the enemy's vision.
• Armor-piercing shells (*Pzgr.*) were used against armored vehicles; their armor-piercing projectiles were specifically designed to penetrate enemy armor.
