The 7.5 cm ammunition for the Kw.K. 40 was among the most important munitions used by German tanks during World War II. Various types of ammunition were available depending on the operational requirement.

• High-explosive shells (*Sprgr.*) were used against unarmored targets, infantry, field positions, and light fortifications, achieving their effect through blast and fragmentation.
• Armor-piercing shells (*Pzgr.*) were employed against armored vehicles; their armor-piercing projectiles were specifically designed to penetrate enemy armor.
