The RSO/01 tracked tractor was a fully tracked vehicle that was built for the Wehrmacht based on the model of Soviet tracked tractors in order to overcome the difficulties of the demanding terrain on the Eastern Front. It helped to secure supplies in difficult terrain and served combat units as a towing vehicle for anti-tank and infantry guns. It came with a closed driver's cab, which was replaced by a half-cab with a tarpaulin cover in later vehicles. The RSO chassis also served as a mobile platform for 7.5 cm PaK 40.
