Tiger I Support Vehicle "Bergetiger"

When the Allied forces captured a modified Tiger I adapted for technical and logistical support of front-line armored forces, they dubbed it the "Bergetiger," similar to the name they had given to recovery vehicles based on the Panther and Panzer IV tanks.

It was essentially a Tiger I, identical in hull and tracks, and especially in its heavy armor, lacking a main gun and equipped with a crane suitable for towing other tanks and lifting heavy loads.

It was also equipped with spare parts, equipment for repairing other armored vehicles, and reserve ammunition.

There are no official production statistics, but it is believed that several "Bergetigers" were built directly at the front in the Wehrmacht's field workshops.
