"Blitzkrieg" was a new form of mobile warfare that Germany unleashed across Europe, achieving rapid success in Poland as early as September 1939. The following year, 1940, Germany employed the same strategy against the Benelux countries and France. After less than two months of lightning-fast armored warfare, these nations had capitulated, and British troops had been evacuated from the beaches of Dunkirk following a humiliating defeat. Dragon’s latest "Gen 2" figure set presents four German figures from this early phase of World War II. Titled "March to the West," this 1:35 scale set features four German soldiers equipped in the manner typical of that decisive campaign in May and June 1940.
The four soldiers are distinct from one another, representing different units: a cavalryman, a member of the *Feldgendarmerie* (military police), a *Panzerpionier* (armored combat engineer), and an SS-*Oberschütze* from the famous "Totenkopf" Division.
Each wears uniform elements appropriate to their specific role. For instance, the military policeman wears the rubberized protective coat issued to motorcycle dispatch riders, along with the distinctive military police gorget suspended from a chain around his neck. Each figure is equipped with weapons manufactured to the latest "Gen 2" standards. The arsenal includes MP28 and MP38 submachine guns, a Karabiner 98k rifle, and a captured Czech machine gun. To carry out his duties, the armored combat engineer is also equipped with a 3kg tubular demolition charge (an explosive device similar to the "Bangalore torpedo") and an Nb.K.39 smoke candle. It is a versatile set featuring detailed modeling that offers modelers numerous possibilities for use.
