- Commanders Conference (Kharkov 1943)
At the end of 1942, the Soviet Union launched a large-scale offensive at Stalingrad.
After a month, Stalingrad was back in Soviet hands.
At the same time, the Red Army crossed the Don River and captured Kharkiv, an important communications and transport hub in central Ukraine. The front line was now significantly exposed. However, thanks to the famous German Field Marshal Manstein, the line was miraculously held.
He then launched a counterattack on Kharkiv, a major operation involving several German divisions.
The 1st SS Panzer Division led the lion's share of the counterattack forces.
After fierce house-to-house fighting and heavy losses, the city was finally recaptured. Emboldened by the success of recapturing Kharkiv, the German Wehrmacht planned and launched another major offensive, which became world-famous as the Battle of Kursk.
This kit includes four SS commanders in various uniforms during a briefing in Kharkiv.
They are depicted as Max Hansen (commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 1st SS Panzergrenadier Regiment) in a winter parka, Fritz Witt (commander of the 1st SS Panzergrenadier Regiment) in a sheepskin coat, Kurt Meyer (commander of the 1st SS Reconnaissance Division of the Light Army Aviation) in armored overalls, and Bernhard Krause (commander of the 1st SS Flak Battalion) in a lined anorak. They carry personal equipment such as binoculars, map cases, and pistols.
