The Ju 87 dive bomber is certainly one of the most famous aircraft of the Second World War. This distinctive "bent-wing" aircraft gained fame in the early stages of the war and, along with the Wehrmacht's Panzer Division, can be seen as a symbol of the "Blitzkrieg".
Before the start of the war, the Italian Regia Aeronautica asked the German ally for a specific delivery of one hundred “Stuka” to equip its ground attack and dive squadrons.
The first Ju 87Bs arrived in the summer of 1940 and equipped the 96º Gruppo Bombardamento a Tuffo.
The Ju 87, in the B2 version or in the -R2 version, equipped the “Gruppi di Volo” with a total of 150 aircraft.
The Italian “Stuka”, nicknamed “Picchiatello”, was used by the Regia Aeronautica over Malta, North Africa, the Balkans and the Mediterranean.
