The design by Dr. Kurt Tank ultimately led to the Fw 190, which was considered one of the best fighter aircraft until the end of World War II. The Fw 190's impressive performance soon led to the replacement of the Messerschmitt Bf 109.
The Fw 190 D-12 R14 was the torpedo-fighter version of the D-12. It featured the same large vertical stabilizer as the Ta 152 and the D-10. The aircraft was equipped with the 30 mm MK 108 cannon, which fired through the propeller hub, and could carry an LT1b or LTF5b torpedo on the ETC 504 bomb rack located centrally under the fuselage.
