
The MiG-3 was the result of a program to improve the MiG-1.
Production of the MiG-3 began in December 1940.
The first deliveries of the new fighter to front-line squadrons took place in April 1941.
Series production of the MiG-3 lasted until the last week of December 1941, when it was halted due to the unavailability of the AM-35A engine.
A total of around 3,120 MiG-3s were produced, and 50 more were built from available spare parts in the first half of 1942.
