The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 (NATO reporting name "Fishbed") is a Soviet supersonic multi-role fighter aircraft from the early 1960s. The MiG-21 has been operated by the air forces of over 30 countries worldwide, with some still in service today.
The MiG-21 became the most widely produced and longest-manufactured supersonic aircraft—over 10,000 units were built in total. The aircraft saw action in numerous armed conflicts, including the Arab-Israeli wars and the Vietnam War.
Serial production began in 1959, though the aircraft's development was far from complete when production started. From 1961 to 2005, the MiG-21 was operated by the Czechoslovak People's Army and subsequently by the Army of the Czech Republic.
