A light armored personnel carrier was developed by adding armor to a 1-ton half-track and was officially designated Sd.Kfz. 250.
The frontal armor was 14.5 mm thick, and the side armor was 8 mm thick.
Compared to the original vehicle, it had one fewer pair of road wheels because the first torsion bar axle had been removed to reduce weight.
The most famous half-track was the Sd.Kfz. 250/3 Greif, which was used by General Rommel in North Africa and in the Battle of Tobruk in June 1942.
The word "Greif" was emblazoned on its sides, symbolizing the winged beast of Greek mythology.
