Entering service in the mid-1960s, the Leopard 1 formed the backbone of the armored forces of the Federal Republic of Germany and several NATO nations during the Cold War.
The Leopard was designed to counter the massive tank formations that Warsaw Pact forces could field.
It was equipped with the proven 105mm L7 gun, capable of firing various types of ammunition.
The A5 version represents a significant upgrade, featuring a modified turret designed to accommodate modern computer-controlled target acquisition and fire-control systems.
Additionally, composite polycarbonate armor was added, significantly enhancing protection and resistance to hits.
