In 1993, the 1st Regiment of the Royal Horse Artillery was the first unit in the British Army to receive the new AS 90 self-propelled howitzer. Since the AS 90 entered service with the British Army, it has replaced the entire fleet of older systems, namely the 155 mm M109 and the 105 mm "Abbot" S.P. Today, the AS 90 is the only tracked self-propelled howitzer in the British Army's inventory.
