The G version of the Pz.Kpfw.IV. Ausf. F2/early G were equipped with the long-barreled KwK 40 L/43 guns after combat with Soviet tanks showed the inferiority of the Wehrmacht's short-barreled tank guns
They were manufactured between March 1942 and June 1943 and featured a new shroud and tube cradle. Further improvements during production included additional armor.
They were deployed on all fronts.
