In 1942, the Panzer IV G was to be the first tank to be equipped with the 7.5 cm KwK40 L/43 cannon.
However, since the Wehrmacht urgently needed to counteract the thicker armor of the T-34 and KV-1, this gun was also installed in some Ausf. F (known as F2).
From March to July 1942, a total of 175 Ausf. F2s were built.
