German Land-Wasser-Schlepper (LWS) medium

Development of the Land-Wasser-Schlepper (LWS) began in 1936, but the first seven vehicles were not completed until July 1940. Another 14 units followed by March 1941. Designed by Rheinmetall-Borsig as an amphibious vehicle for combat engineers, it lacked both sufficient storage space and suitable access points for loading and unloading. To address this issue, special amphibious trailers with load capacities of 10 and 20 tonnes were developed. The crew consisted of three to five men, and the vehicle could also transport 20 passengers. Another drawback was the lack of armor, which prevented effective use of the vehicle in combat zones. The LWS saw service in Russia and North Africa.
