With the appearance of new heavy tanks such as the IS-2 on the Soviet-German front, the German army urgently needed heavy anti-tank guns. Krupp and Rheinmetall developed guns based on 128 mm naval systems, but there was no time for the development and manufacture of mounts, so the barrels were installed on captured French GPF-T (K 81/1) and Soviet ML-20 (K 81 /2) were installed
