The Husky Mk III VMMD (Vehicle Mounted Mine Detector) is a specialized mine-detection vehicle designed to scout and secure roads against landmines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Originally developed in South Africa, the vehicle was adopted by numerous armed forces—including those of the USA, Canada, and Australia—due to its high survivability and reliability, and it saw successful service, particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Its design features a centrally located, heavily armored driver's cab, a V-shaped blast-deflecting underbody, and modular axles designed to detach in a controlled manner during an explosion, thereby offering maximum protection to the crew. Powered by a Mercedes-Benz diesel engine, the Husky is a single-operator vehicle capable of speeds up to 72 km/h.

The Husky Mk III's primary mission is mine detection. To this end, it is equipped with fold-out metal detection sensors and—depending on the variant—ground-penetrating radar capable of detecting both metallic and non-metallic mines as well as buried explosive devices. Suspicious areas are marked and subsequently investigated and cleared by combat engineer units. The vehicle generally carries no fixed armament, as the operational focus is on safe mine detection and reconnaissance.

Thanks to its robust construction, advanced sensor systems, and ease of repair following mine detonations, the Husky Mk III ranks among the world's most successful and effective mine-detection vehicles, having played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of military convoys in modern conflicts.
