The SLLPT (Self-Loading Lightweight Pallet Trailer) was developed for the British Armed Forces to transport supplies quickly and efficiently right up to forward operating locations. This lightweight, single-axle trailer was designed specifically for air-mobile and highly mobile units and was frequently towed by the Supacat ATMP. Its low weight and robust construction allowed for operation even in difficult terrain, while its dimensions facilitated air transport inside helicopters or as an underslung load.

The standout feature of the SLLPT was its mechanical self-loading system. Using a pivoting frame, the trailer could pick up and set down a standardized supply pallet without the need for additional lifting equipment. This enabled the rapid handling - within minutes - of ammunition, rations, water, spare parts, and other supplies. Especially in combat situations, this system significantly reduced the time transport vehicles spent stationary and lessened the physical strain on soldiers.

The SLLPT was designed to carry standardized British military pallets and could transport loads such as 105mm artillery ammunition, supply crates, or technical equipment. It was often deployed alongside the Drop Drum Trailer, which carried fuel drums. This combination allowed a single ATMP to transport ammunition, fuel, and other supplies simultaneously - a crucial advantage for air-mobile operations and units deployed far forward. The trailer proved its worth during numerous British Army and Royal Marines deployments, including the Gulf War, operations in the Balkans, and the conflict in Afghanistan. These deployments demonstrated that the combination of low weight, excellent off-road capability, and rapid loading procedures offered significant logistical advantages, particularly under challenging operational conditions.
