The 3 t truck 3.6-6700A Opel Blitz was the all-wheel drive off-road version of the well-known Opel Blitz and was one of the most important medium-sized trucks of the German Wehrmacht. Series production began in July 1940 after it became clear that the two-wheel-drive models had limited use in difficult terrain. Compared to the road-bound type 3.6-36S, the 6700A received a switchable all-wheel drive, a transfer case and a wheelbase shortened to 3,450 mm, which significantly improved its off-road mobility. The early production vehicles still had the high-quality all-steel cab with the characteristic rounded fenders and horizontal radiator fins. The platform consisted of a steel and wood construction with folding side walls and could be equipped with a bow frame and a tarpaulin. The truck was powered by a water-cooled 3.6 liter inline six-cylinder petrol engine with 68 hp, which transmitted power to all four wheels via a four-speed transmission and a transfer case.

With a payload of three tons, the Opel Blitz was suitable for transporting soldiers, ammunition, fuel and supplies and also formed the basis for numerous special structures such as radio, workshop, medical or tank vehicles. Thanks to its robust construction, easy maintenance and good off-road characteristics, the 3.6-6700A proved its worth in all Wehrmacht theaters of war - from North Africa to the Eastern Front to Italy and Western Europe. By the end of production in 1944, around 25,000 vehicles of this all-wheel drive version had been built, which is now one of the most famous military trucks of the Second World War.
