The Fordson Industrial Tractor Standard N, produced from 1940 to 1942, saw service with various British and Commonwealth forces during World War II, including the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), the Royal Air Force (RAF), and the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. The basis was the civilian Fordson N-Standard tractor, adapted for military requirements. These robust and simply constructed vehicles served primarily at airfields and naval facilities as towing vehicles for aircraft, trailers, bomb carts, and other ground equipment. Their reliability and excellent off-road capability made them particularly suitable for use on unpaved airfields and temporary bases.

With the RAF, Fordson tractors were frequently used at bomber and fighter airfields, where they maneuvered aircraft and transported supplies. The Fleet Air Arm used similar vehicles at naval bases and aircraft carrier bases to support onboard and ground logistics. The RAAF also used Fordson tractors at Australian and Pacific airfields, especially for the maintenance and servicing of Allied aircraft. Characteristic features included the large rear wheels, the simple open cab, and the economical engine, which made the tractor easy to maintain and long-lasting. Due to their versatile applications, Fordson tractors were among the typical support vehicles for Allied airfields in World War II.
