The Chevrolet G7117 1.5-ton 4x4 Wrecker was an American military recovery vehicle (“wrecker”) based on Chevrolet’s G7100 series 1.5-ton 4x4 trucks, which were produced in large numbers during World War II. Technically, the vehicle featured a robust 3.9-liter inline six-cylinder gasoline engine (Chevrolet “Stovebolt”) producing approximately 80–85 hp, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and selectable four-wheel drive. The chassis was designed for off-road use, with solid axles, leaf springs, and high ground clearance to enable the recovery of damaged vehicles under difficult conditions.

 Characteristic of the G7117 wrecker version was its permanently mounted recovery system with a winch, boom, and pulley system, usually from manufacturers like Holmes, which enabled the lifting, pulling, and towing of vehicles. The payload was approximately 1.5 tons, with the recovery mechanism specifically designed for repair and maintenance units.

The G7117 was introduced around 1941 and used in nearly all theaters of operation for the U.S. Armed Forces—from Europe to the Pacific. It played a crucial role in the rapid restoration of mechanized units to operational readiness, as damaged or disabled vehicles could be recovered and repaired directly in the field.
