At the beginning of World War II, when the German Wehrmacht was engaged in a blitzkrieg, the need arose for a highly mobile infantry support vehicle that could provide heavy firepower to assist the infantry in breaking through enemy defenses.
The Sturmgeschütz III was developed to meet this requirement.
Version B was the first series-produced variant.
Equipped with a well-armored casemate body with 50mm front and 30mm side armor and armed with a 75mm StuK 37 L/24, these vehicles were used during the invasion of the Balkans and in Operation Barbarossa.
Over the course of the war, the StuG III evolved into a tank destroyer in addition to its role as an assault gun and was often used as a replacement for real battle tanks.
