Developed during the Second World War, the Wasp was based on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw.II and featured the 10.5cm howitzer LFH18, which could fire 14kg shells at ranges of up to 10.6km.
Between February 1943 and July 1944, 676 Wasps were produced and used for both infantry support and anti-tank duties from the Eastern Front to Normandy and Italy.
In January 1944, the Allied forces attempted to decisively change the balance in Italy with the landing at Anzio; the Wasp self-propelled howitzers were an integral part of the 26th and 29th Panzer Grenadier Divisions.
