During World War II, the German Army often had to contend with fortified positions or in house-to-house combat.
For tactical reasons, the troops were at a short distance from enemy lines, artillery and air support could not be used.
This led to the development of the "Sturm" version of the "Tiger I" heavy tank .
Mounted on the heavy chassis was the efficient 38cm mortar, which had a short range but enormous firepower.
Only a few examples of the Sturmtiger were built, and they were mainly used on the Western Front in 1944.
